The Importance of Little Things: Resist

“Watch your thoughts, they become words;
watch your words, they become actions;
watch your actions, they become habits;
watch your habits, they become character;
watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

I used this quote in my sermon Sunday, and several people asked me to share it in the devotion this
week. We see this in the scripture as well. On the negative side, James says that “each one is tempted when, by
his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and
sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death” (James 1:14-15). Desire leads to sin which leads to death. Paul
paints a more positive picture by saying that even some “bad” like suffering can produce a chain reaction of
good: “we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance,
character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us” (Romans 5:3-5). C. S. Lewis says that in every
decision we make we are become a little more of a creature of heaven, or a creature of hell. So today, when you
face those “little” temptations, Resist! God wants to develop in you the image of Christ!
